A New York investment firm has acquired Columbia-based Electric Guard Dog LLC, a provider of monitored electric security fence systems, from an affiliate of Ulysses Management LLC.
Terms of the acquisition, which was announced today, were not disclosed.
The new owner, Snow Phipps Group LLC, said in a press release that current CEO Jack DeMao and the existing Electric Guard Dog management team will continue to lead the company following the transaction.
"Snow Phipps is excited to partner with Electric Guard Dog's management team, which has an outstanding track record of delivering security solutions to its customers,” Sean Epps, partner at Snow Phipps, said in a press release. “The company is poised for significant growth and we intend to meet growing demand by continuing to invest in sales, marketing, service technicians, compliance, and technology."
Electric Guard Dog's security solutions allow customers to protect high-value assets stored at commercial and industrial locations. Increased crime levels and restricted law enforcement resources are driving an ever-widening array of companies to seek the deterrent value of electric security fence systems like those provided by the Columbia company.
"We have made substantial investments in our business that have driven robust growth and expanded our capabilities," DeMao said. "We look forward to further growth while providing the same high level of service to customers under Snow Phipps' ownership."
John Kenny, Snow Phipps operating partner, who focuses on industrial service businesses, will join Electric Guard Dog as the non-executive chairman. Kenny currently serves as chairman of Cascade Environmental Services and was formerly the CFO of Iron Mountain Inc., a storage and information management company.
Raymond James & Associates, Inc. served as exclusive financial adviser to Electric Guard Dog, and Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, P.A. served as its legal adviser. Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP served as legal counsel to Snow Phipps.
Electric Guard is regarded as the market leader in electric security fences and perimeter security in the country, according to a press release. It is serves as a security partner for more than 3,300 commercial and industrial locations across the United States.
The company was founded in 1991 by Bill Mullis, who conceived and designed the first solar-powered electric security fence. In 2007, the business was purchased by Ulysses Management, a New York-based family office. The company has been ranked on the Inc. List for four out of the last five years, as well as ranked as one of the top 30 security companies in the United States on the SDM 100 List since 2011. In 2015, leading security trade publication SDM Magazine designated Electric Guard Dog their Dealer of the Year Honoree.
In 2014 and 2015, Electric Guard Dog received a Best Places to Work in South Carolina award, sponsored by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and SCBiz magazine.
