Dominion Energy has expanded its bill pay assistance program for low-income, disabled and elderly customers into South Carolina.

The EnergyShare program’s expansion into the state was finalized with a $250,000 corporate contribution, funded by shareholders and administered through the South Carolina Office of Economic Opportunity, according to a news release from Dominion.

EnergyShare is a year-round program which helps qualified customers pay for electric and natural gas services. Since its start in 1986, more than $9.2 million in contributions have assisted customers. In 2019, Dominion Energy South Carolina customers, employees and retirees contributed $155,000 to the program.

“In light of the coronavirus pandemic’s effect on everyone’s lives – some even more so than others – programs like EnergyShare are needed now more than ever,” said Rodney Blevins, president of Dominion Energy South Carolina, in the release. “We are pleased to be able to grow this energy assistance program with our initial corporate donation, and in partnership with community action agencies, to help our neighbors in need keep their homes warm during the winter and cool during the summer.”

Program funds will be distributed among 12 community action agencies in Dominion Energy South Carolina’s service area.

In mid-March, Dominion suspended service disconnections arrangements during the pandemic.
