Venues Today has ranked Columbia’s Colonial Life Arena fourth among the nation’s highest-grossing university arenas for 2016. The magazine focuses on the sports and entertainment industry.

The charts, which cover the period of Dec. 1, 2015, through Nov. 30, 2016, were published in the February issue. The ranking is based on concert and event grosses for arenas with a capacity of 15,000 and more; Colonial Life Arena attracted 208,107 patrons for 46 shows, grossing $7,706,754.

The ranking was one spot lower than for the previous year, when the arena brought in 177,143 patrons for 33 shows, grossing $8.4 million.

“It’s a great honor to be ranked so high nationally once again and continue the tradition of excellence established at Colonial Life Arena,” said Sid Kenyon, general manager of the Colonial Life Arena. “This success is definitely a collaborative effort between our industry, the University of South Carolina and the Columbia community.”

Colonial Life Arena, the premier entertainment and sports facility for the Midlands, has welcomed an array of distinguished acts including Paul McCartney, Bruno Mars, Darius Rucker, Maroon 5, Carrie Underwood, Zac Brown Band, Pearl Jam and Taylor Swift over the years. The venue is also the hosts comedy shows, trade shows, and family shows such as the Harlem Globetrotters and Disney on Ice.

The venue also plays host to University of South Carolina men’s and women’s basketball. The women’s basketball team led the nation in attendance during the 2014-15 season averaging over 12,000 fans. The men’s team recently set a record for most fans averaged this past season.
