The South Carolina Small Business Development Center and Town of Chapin will sponsor a free workshop for Chapin businesses affected by the recent shutdown of construction at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station.
The Aug. 24 workshop will feature planning tools designed to help small business owners assess their current financial, operational and mental preparedness for the likely economic challenges that will arise during the recovery period following the closures.
General training sessions will take place at the Community Room at Chapin Town Hall from 8-10 a.m. One-on-one consultations will be available with SC SBDC business consultants by appointment. There is no charge for any of the services.
Last Monday, SCANA Corp. announced it was abandoning construction of two reactor units at the Jenkinsville facility, which is about 16 miles from Chapin. About 5,000 workers, including hundreds who live in the Chapin area, lost their jobs.
