Unemployment claims rise to more than 9,300
Initial claims filed in S.C. climbed to 9,328 for the week ending Jan. 2 as eligible claimants began receiving the first round of extended federal benefits. The claims total was the highest since July 25.
South Carolina adds 4,100 construction jobs in 12-month period
Growth in Spartanburg and Columbia, two of 122 metro areas in the country to add industry jobs, contributed to 4% growth in the state from November 2019 to November 2020.
Preservation and conservation grants available in Richland County
The application deadline for grants worth up to $50,000 is Feb. 5. Nonprofits, neighborhood organizations, governmental agencies and other organizations can apply for the grants, which require a 20% match.
Loan program application deadline extended to Dec. 31
Applications for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program for the COVID-19 pandemic will be accepted pending availability of funds for the loans, which include an interest rate of 3.75% for small businesses and 2.75% for nonprofits.
