Benedict College president 1 of 13 scholarship recipients

Roslyn Clark Artis, president of Benedict College, is one of 13 recipients of the Association of American Colleges and Universities-Cengage Inclusion Scholarship.

The scholarship, presented with education technology company Cengage, recognizes college and university presidents whose leadership has reduced educational equity gaps, improved inclusion for minority students and reformed hiring practices to promote greater diversity. 

The recipients were announced Jan. 22.

“We are so excited to be able to support these amazing higher ed leaders who are making a real difference by reducing inequities and increasing access to education,” Fernando Bleichmar, Cengage executive vice president and general manager for U.S. higher education, said in a news release. “At Cengage, we believe learning transforms lives, and the work of these leaders is so critical in giving students the opportunity to better their lives and in creating an educated, informed and just society.” 

Dwaun Warmack, president of Claflin University in Orangeburg, joined Artis as an S.C. award recipient. The selected presidents will each receive a one-year AACU&U campus membership and a one-year membership in the organization’s Presidents’ Trust, a network of education CEOs.

“AAC&U is proud to recognize and support these exceptional leaders in their efforts to advance equity and quality as hallmarks of a liberal education across a diverse range of campuses and student populations,” organization president Lynn Pasquerella said.
