Representatives from cable and satellite television network C-SPAN will honor local winners of its annual student video documentary competition on May 8 at Richland Northeast High School. The students will receive a certificate during a 2:15 p.m. ceremony featuring classmates, teachers and family members, and the winning videos will be viewed.

Henry Horlbeck and Alex Wages won honorable mention and a $250 prize for their video “Content Unavailable.” Wade Fletcher, Brandon Pendergrass and William Davidson also won honorable mention and $250 for “Faux Paws.”

C-SPAN has partnered with local cable providers nationwide since 2006 to invite middle and high school students to produce short documentaries on a subject of national importance. The network received a record 2,985 submissions from more than 5,700 students in 46 states addressing this year’s theme: “The Constitution & You.” Students chose a provision of the U.S. Constitution and created a video illustrating its importance.

Prizes totaling $100,000 were awarded to 150 students and 53 teachers.
