Air Wisconsin to locate new flight crew base at CAE

The United regional carrier says the base, which will be operational on Oct. 1, will add around 150 positions. Under the name United Express, Air Wisconsin operates daily flights to Chicago and Washington, D.C., from Columbia.

May and June passenger traffic at Columbia Metropolitan Airport increased 9% compared to the same period last year. The airport also announced Delta Air Lines will increase aircraft size for flights into Columbia beginning this fall.

Columbia Metropolitan Airport has seen a 5.3% increase in air traffic during the first two months of 2018 compared to last year. Nearly 166,000 total passengers used the airport during that time compared to 157,000 in 2017.

A report from the S.C. Aeronautics Commission found that the state's 57 airports support nearly 123,000 employees. Columbia Metropolitan Airport had a total impact of 6,642 workers, for an overall economic impact of $748 million.
