The Battleaxe Band is an all-female string band based out of Upstate South Carolina. Members include Amy Buckingham on fiddle and guitar, Lucy Allen on guitar, Brooke Lauer on banjo and fiddle, and Nancy Hamilton on upright bass. The band loves to play hard-driving Old-Time dance tunes like Big Scioty and North Carolina Breakdown, original songs, singer-songwriter songs from Gillian Welch and The Wailin Jennys, and even a traditional gospel number or two. The Battleaxes, who have all been playing music for most of their lives, are best known for their powerful vocals and harmonies.
