Denkai America Inc. is investing $14 million to expand its Kershaw County operations in a move expected to create 10 jobs.

The subsidiary of Nippon Denkai Ltd., operating for more than 40 years, manufactures electrodeposited copper foils for printed circuit board, industrial and energy storage applications.

Electrodeposited copper foil is a key component in lithium ion batteries, which power electric vehicles.

The expansion of the facility at 29 Battleship Extension Road in Camden will increase capacity and the company’s ability to meet growing demand in the energy storage market segment, according to a news release from Central SC Alliance. The facility will be updated and additional factory space constructed.

“Denkai America Inc. is excited by the opportunity to revitalize our manufacturing facility and prepare for growth into new markets,” company COO Michael Coll said in the release.

The expansion is expected to be completed by October 2022. Employment information is available online at denkaiamerica.com/about/careers.
“Denkai America Inc.'s investment to grow capacity is yet another success story that proves our community competes globally and welcomes international business,” Keshaw County Council Chair Julian Burns said.
