Dent Middle School teacher Kason Dalton has been named the 2018 S.C. History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

The national organization dedicated to K-12 American history education has presented the award each year since 2004 to one teacher from each state, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories and U.S. Department of Defense schools. A national winner will be chosen this fall.

Dalton, the co-chair of the S.C. Council for History Education, teaches seventh grade at the Richland School District Two school, focusing on reading and analyzation. During her 10-year educational career, Dalton has made presentations on historical thinking and personalized learning at national and state conferences and received her national board certification.

Dalton receives a $1,000 prize, and Dent’s school library gets a core archive of American history books and Gilder Lehrman educational materials.
