Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina has launched the Tech Academy, a program aimed at opening doors to a variety of career possibilities in cybersecurity.

Tech Academy’s objective is to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to protect data and combat emerging cyber threats, according to a news release from Goodwill.

Participants will have an opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications, including CompTIA, IT Fundamentals, A+ certification, and Network+, the release stated. STEM U, a company that specializes in connecting partners to science, technology, engineering and math, will provide course instruction for the program.

“Goodwill is committed to providing accessible pathways to meaningful careers, and the launch of the Tech Academy underscores our dedication to addressing the evolving needs of the workforce,” Monique McDaniels, Goodwill vice president of community and workforce development, said in the release. “As a leader in workforce development in South Carolina, we are excited to empower individuals with the skills and certifications necessary to thrive in the dynamic world of cybersecurity.”

The inaugural class of the Tech Academy will take place on March 25 at two locations: the Goodwill Hardscrabble Job Connection in Columbia at 111 Highland Center Drive, and Goodwill’s Youth and Family Services Center in Greenville at 45 E. Main St.

The Tech Academy is part of Goodwill’s new Innovation Institute that offers participants opportunities to undergo training and obtain certifications in technology-focused sectors such as cybersecurity, film studies, health care pathways and drone pilot training.
