The S.C. Chamber of Commerce will highlight the contributions of women to the state’s business community during the inaugural Women’s Leadership Symposium.

The summit, to take place May 18 at the Columbia Metropolitan Center, will explore the opportunities and challenges women face in the business world.

“Women play an essential role in South Carolina’s 21st century economy, and their influence in the business world will only continue to grow in the years to come,” Kim Wilkerson, Chair of the S.C. Chamber of Commerce and S.C. State President for Bank of America, said in a news release. “This new symposium will offer leaders from across the state the opportunity to reflect on the barrier-breaking work of the women who got us to this point and consider the new trails women will be blazing as the business landscape continues to evolve.”

The event will feature panel discussions, a to-be-announced keynote speaker, and the presentation of the Athena Leadership Award, which honors women who excel professionally while improving the quality of life in their communities and assisting others in reaching their full potential. There are two categories for the award: one for leadership accomplishment and another for a leading young professional.

Award nomination forms can be found on the chamber website. Nominations close April 26.
