Two downtown businesses will celebrate grand openings this weekend, while a new dining option in the Vista is up and running.

You and Improved Esthetics, a new full-service spa in the Vista, will celebrate its grand opening on Friday at 911 Lady St., Suite D.

Dusty Rushton owns the skincare treatment center, which offers non-surgical services including facials, waxing, teeth whitening, massages and body sculpting.

“The Vista is a special place with plenty of dining options, and the neighborhood’s public art makes it different from anywhere else in the city,” Rushton said in a news release. “I know clients will love what we have to offer. I look forward to helping men and women enhance the beauty they already have.”

The grand opening celebration, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., will include complimentary food and beverages.

Also new to the Vista is Kao Thai Cuisine, which opened earlier this month in the former firehouse at the corner of Senate and Park streets. Owned by Gai Wilson, a native of Bangkok, the restaurant at 101 Senate St., Suite 300, features Pan-Asian dishes as well as classic Thai food.

Wilson opened Tamarind Thai Cuisine in Arden, N.C, in 2007.

The fire station, located at the corner of Park and Senate streets, was built between 1949 and 1951 and at the time was considered one of the most advanced fire department headquarters in the country. It closed in 1995, and at one point was scheduled for demolition before being purchased by Capitol Places. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 and sold to Wheeler Development in 2015.

There are plans for another restaurant at the two-story, 20,800-square-foot building.

In Five Points, Palmetto Renovations will hold its grand opening at 1112 Harden St. on Saturday. The celebration, from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m., will include face painting, music, hot dogs and shaved ice, and donations of canned food for Harvest Hope Food Bank will be accepted.

The company works with sunrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, floors, decks and additions, according to a release.
