Lasenta Lewis-Ellis, a graduate of Midlands Technical College and the founder and CEO of Columbia-based LLE Construction Group, will deliver the commencement address at MTC’s graduation ceremony tonight.

Lewis-Ellis, who earned an associate’s degree in Architectural Engineering Technology, has been recognized as the South Carolina Technical Education Association’s Outstanding Technical College Alumni and selected as Enterprising Women Magazine’s 2016 Enterprising Woman of the Year, according to a news release from MTC.

The 7 p.m. ceremony at Colonial Life Arena will see almost 2,400 degrees, diplomas and certificates awarded to students in more than 120 academic programs, according to the release, with 85 graduates receiving associate degrees and certificates the same year they graduate from high school in MTC’s dual enrollment program.

MTC will award an honorary associate degree in Humane Letters to Ernest Hollings, the former U.S. senator and South Carolina governor and advocate of the S.C. Technical College System who died last month. Hollings’ son, Michael Hollings, is slated to accept the award.
