More than 2,900 applicants for SC Cares Act Relief Grant Programs will receive $65 million in funds to offset pandemic-related costs.

The S.C. Department of Administration announced last week that 2,970 applicants will receive funds through either the Minority and Small Business Relief Grant Program or the Nonprofit Relief Grant Program.

Payments will occur through January, based on when applicants received notification and provided payment information, according to a news release. The notification process concluded Dec. 30.

A total of 2,284 minority and small business applicants will receive $40 million, while 686 nonprofits will receive $25 million.

The grant programs were created and funded by the S.C. General Assembly through Act 154, signed by Gov. Henry McMaster last September. The funds are designated to reimburse small and minority businesses and nonprofit organizations for costs associated with business interruption and expenses caused by COVID-19.

The S.C. Department of Administration coordinated the programs, funded by federal coronavirus relief funds, through grant services provider Guidehouse.
