MTC offering new scholarship program

A new Midlands Tech scholarship program open to residents of Richland, Lexington and Fairfield counties will provide free tuition to recipients in several manufacturing careers.

The Pathways to Manufacturing Careers @ MTC program will provide hands-on experience in industries such as welding, mechatronics, machine tool, electrical wiring and industrial electricity. Scholarships are available in academic career courses and well as corporate and continuing education courses, according to a release from MTC.

The deadline to apply for the scholarships is Aug. 20. The deadline for academic program registration for the fall semester is Aug. 16.

“MTC offers these scholarships for students interested in pursuing careers where area manufacturers are looking for new employees,” Sandra Hackley, MTC associate vice provost for career programs, said in the release. “Some of these potential students are currently enrolled in high school courses that could lead straight into these programs. … Our overall goal is to create a clear pathway from high school to college and employment that creates a lasting pipeline of talent supporting and growing the manufacturing industry in the Midlands.”
