New elementary school at Fort Jackson to be dedicated

A dedication ceremony for Fort Jackson’s newly constructed Pierce Terrace Elementary School will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m.

The ceremony will include a ribbon cutting and remarks from Department of Defense Education Activity and Fort Jackson officials at the school, located at 5715 Adams Court.

Ground was broken on the school in December 2017 and classes began this year, according to an article on the website of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Charleston District, which oversaw the school’s design and construction.

The $27 million school serves 325 students and includes Department of Defense Education Activity 21st Century School design features such as expandable walls to adjust to classroom size changes, an outdoor amphitheater, a butterfly garden and an energy dashboard that monitors each classroom’s energy use.

The original Pierce Terrace Elementary School building was built in the early 1970s and underwent several remodels, according to the school website. It serves prekindergarten, kindergarten and first grade students. Pinckney Elementary School serves students from second to sixth grade.

Middle school and high school students who live on post attend Richland School District Two schools.
