Passenger traffic at Columbia Metropolitan Airport increased 9.15% from July to August 2019.

The airport reported 120,648 passengers passed through the terminal in August. Since August 2018, passenger traffic is up 17%, with 898,024 passengers traveling through CAE, according to a news release.

“Month over month, we’re seeing stronger passenger traffic numbers,” Mike Gula, CAE executive director, said in the release. “These numbers are keeping us on pace to hopefully end the year with a 17-to-19% increase over 2018.”

CAE has several improvement projects underway, including a new garage parking system which makes it easier to identify open spaces, a new in-line baggage system that will move all baggage screeners behind ticket desks, and new escalators in the terminal and parking garage.

Beginning Dec. 19., American Airlines is offering a daily nonstop flight to Miami, with tickets now on sale. The flight will depart CAE at 7:12 a.m. and arrive in Miami at 8:58 a.m. The return flight departs Miami at 9:49 p.m. and returns to CAE at 11:47 p.m.

The airport also recently partnered with Samsung to display the company’s washers assembled at its Newberry pant in the main lobby in an effort to showcase Midlands-based international industries.
