Two men whose bodies were recovered today from flood waters in Lower Richland have been identified as subcontractors from out of state.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victims as Robert Bradford Vance, 58, of Lexington, Ky., and Ricky Allen McDonald, 53, of Chesapeake, Ohio. Their bodies were found in a vehicle submerged in floodwaters along Congaree Road near Cedar Creek.
Both men were subcontractors for a railroad company, Watts said. They were traveling with three other subcontractors to a job site when their vehicle left the roadway, plunged down an embankment and became submerged in the floodwaters caused by the weekend’s historic rainfall.
The other three men were able to escape from the vehicle, Watts said.
The men’s deaths raise the county death toll from the storm to nine. Across the state there have been a total of 17 people killed, authorities said.
