SEED Architecture moves to Cottontown

Full-service architecture and planning firm SEED Architecture has moved into new offices in the Cottontown area at 2144 Sumter St.

SEED, founded in 2015, was the project architect for the redevelopment of the former Dave’s Transmission building on the property, which now also includes Cason Development Group, GrayFox Strategic and No BS Sales School. Two other buildings that were part of the Dave’s Transmission complex have been repurposed for the recently opened Citta del Cotone pizzeria, and there is space for another potential restaurant.

Firm founder John Powell said the move from 1612 Marion St. “has been a good fit for us in terms of the character of our space” and gives the firm room to grow in an area it is familiar with. SEED was involved in the transformation of the former Dunn Electric Co. building into Indah Coffee and Circa Barber Shop, receiving a 2018 Preservation Award for Adaptive Reuse from Historic Columbia.

“It’s been exciting to be a part of the new growth in Columbia,” Powell said in a news release.

Primarily a commercial firm, Seed does the bulk of its work in the greater Columbia region, Charleston and Greenville. Current projects include Blythewood Presbyterian Church in Blythewood, a Diamond Pet Foods manufacturing facility in Gaston and Flatrock Family Dentistry in Greenville.
