The Moore Co.’s Graeme Moore and Justin Drafts have received the S.C. chapter of the American Institute of Architects’ 2019 Community Collaboration award for their work on the Flip & Give project.

The project transformed a two-bedroom Shandon bungalow into a four-bedroom showplace and distributed $100,000 in charitable contributions among five Midlands nonprofits. Net proceeds from the sale of the Duncan Street house were divvied up among charities picked by online voters, who also made many of the design choices for the house.

"We're very flattered to see the Flip & Give project was recognized," said Moore, owner of Columbia real estate agency The Moore Co. "It's always nice when hard work pays off. I think it's an award for the community that came together to make this project possible, all the vendors and people who donated. It really was overwhelming."

“This effort embodies the AIASC Community Collaboration award in every sense,” Asheley Scott St. John, president of 1×1 Design, said in a news release. “From the schematic design through construction administration to the partnerships with local nonprofits, it was more than a project. It was a passion of The Moore Co., and we are humbled to have been one of the contributors.”

Moore presented five checks to area charities in June.

“It’s unbelievable. It brings tears to your eyes, really, seeing what these folks do,” Moore said at that event. “These are the people who do the hard work in our community.”

The community collaboration award is given to programs, institutions or individuals that advance the public understanding and appreciation of design, or to a project exhibiting exceptional engagement of the community in the design process, according to the release.
