Automotive supplier Magna International will invest $50.8 million in an expansion of its manufacturing operations in southern Greenville County. A BMW supplier, the Ontario, Canada-based company expects to add 153 jobs as it builds a 165,000-square-foot exteriors facility at Matrix Park.
The company’s product makes body, chassis, exterior, seating, powertrain, electronic, vision, closure and roof systems and modules, as well as complete vehicle engineering and contract manufacturing.
The new Magna facility will “support new business with BMW to supply various exterior molded and painted assemblies,” an S.C. Department of Commerce statement said. The company plans to begin operations in the new facility in June 2016.
The S.C. Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits.
This will be a facility on a site they purchase from the county, said Greenville Area Development Corp. President and CEO Mark Farris.
“This is a technology-intensive company,” Farris said. “It is a testament to our ability to supply that kind of labor.”
Farris said, “Anytime a company decides to reinvest in the county it is a positive sign.”
