The Governor’s Opportunity Zones Summit will provide information about the tax-incentivized economic development program on Jan. 25, 2019, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

South Carolina has 135 tracts in each of its 46 counties designated as opportunity zones in the national community investment program established by Congress in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 that aims to infuse private capital into low-income areas across the country.

The January summit, led by S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster in partnership with the office of U.S. Sen. Tim Scott and the Council of Development Finance Agencies, will feature industry experts sharing advice on how to maximize the zones’ potential.

“We're proud to partner with Senator Scott and Governor McMaster to put on an event that will really benefit South Carolinians,” S.C. Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said in a news release. “This summit will help the state's business leaders and communities take full advantage of opportunity zones, maximizing the economic growth that will come from this new program.”

The event begins and 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Online registration is available.
