Colliers brokers represented both landlord and tenant in the transaction; Tripp Bradley, represented the landlord, Heritage Land and Development, of Memphis, Tenn., and Philip Vann represented the tenant, YMCA of Columbia.
Plans call for constructing a two-story, 20,000-square-foot building that will be completed in the summer of 2016. The present YMCA location is about two blocks away on Sumter Street.
Heritage was formed by William M. Yandell III and John A. Glassell to develop real estate projects with an emphasis on historically significant structures that could be renovated.
In 2014, Heritage purchased the 110,000-square-foot Federal Land Bank Building, which is being converted into apartments, plus 3.6 acres for future development in downtown Columbia.
The new YMCA building will be a standalone building on one of the outparcels adjoining the apartments.
