Construction is expected to begin this week on the Busby Street Community Resource & Training Center in Columbia.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place today at 1 p.m. at the base of the James Clyburn Memorial Pedestrian Bridge.

The center will feature a community center with conference room and recreation area, as well as a new police substation with technology capabilities. Completion of the project is expected to be completed next year.

Once completed, a second phase of construction will include walking trails, playground and plazas on the single-acre site.
