Retail mortgage lender Movement Mortgage broke ground today on a second building at its headquarters in Fort Mill. The $18 million, 90,000-square-foot building is expected to open in January 2019 and is part of the company’s goal to add more than 700 employees to its headquarters during the next five years.

The new facility at the Bailes Ridge Corporate Park in Lancaster County will double the size of Movement Mortgage’s national sales support center. It will house a larger information technology team, the retail sales support team and the company’s affiliates, including Movement Insurance.

“Relationships matter and proximity matters,” Movement CEO Casey Crawford said in a news release. “When we get team members face-to-face at the same location, we see exponential productivity. Despite a contracting mortgage market, we've continued to take market share across the United States, and we plan on continuing to grow in 2018 and well into the future. We want as many team members together in Fort Mill as possible to continue the great work that we're doing.”

Founded in 2008 with four employees, Movement now employees more than 4,300 people in 47 states. More than 800 employees are based in Fort Mill.

Charlotte-based real estate developer The Keith Corporation is helping develop the site, along with building contractor Choate and architectural firm LS3P
