Mashburn Construction is building the first five-story tilt up building in South Carolina. Construction has begun on a medical office building adjacent to Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, according to a news release.

A five-story tilt up allows for an expedited building envelope and structure for faster interior upfits, the release said.

“We recommended this construction method as it includes a very aggressive schedule and is more cost-effective for our client, which is something we value during our preconstruction process,” Mashburn president Lee Mashburn said. “We are proud to lead the way with the first 5-story tilt up in South Carolina and look forward to doing more in the future.”

Mashburn was awarded the project and began construction in late 2018. Completion of the 95,000-square-foot building, which will include physician offices for heart and vascular care, spine and primary care and general surgery, is anticipated by this fall.

The building will include 36 85-foot panels weighing around 160,000 pounds each which are titled in place by a 700,000-pound crane. The concrete panels are formed and poured on the ground and supported once in place with an internal steel frame.
