Columbia area contracting firm names new vice president

William “Bill” Atkins is the new vice president and director of preconstruction for Pyramid Contracting based in Irmo.

Atkins has more than 25 years of professional experience in preconstruction and construction. He was worked around the northeast and southeast in a range of markets including education, healthcare, hospitality, retail, industrial, automotive, nonprofit and commercial.

 “Bill exemplifies the term ‘outlier’ in his field,” said Dave Stewart, chief operating officer for Pyramid.  “His attention to detail coupled with unquestionable integrity are just part of the reasons we are so proud to have him on our team and represent Pyramid Contracting.”

Atkins holds a bachelor of science in construction management from Wentworth Institute of Technology and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology from Springfield Technical Community College. At Pyramid, he will lead the preconstruction team from project concept through design and constructability reviews and final estimating.

Atkins lives in Chapin with his wife Lindsey and two sons.  

Founded in 2003, Pyramid Contracting has six locations and more than 50 employees. The firm specializes in commercial, industrial, federal and defense construction. Notable Pyramid projects include the Spigner House at the University of South Carolina, Richland Library in downtown Columbia, Columbia Craft Microbrewery, and MIWON Specialty Chemicals. Pyramid Contracting was named the 2018 South Carolina Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Firm of the Year.
