Columbia-based TerraStride, a SC Launch portfolio company, announced Monday that its HuntStand app has surpassed the 1 million download mark, putting it in the top percentile of both Google Play and iTunes App stores.
HuntStand now ranks as the No. 1 hunting and land management app on the market, according to a news release from SCRA. The firm’s second product, TerraStride Pro, is a leading land brokerage software, the release added.
"This hunting season has been remarkably successful,” Lanford Holloway, TerraStride founder and CEO, said in a statement. “We have received 40,000 to 50,000 downloads a week for the last several months and have significantly expanded our software, allowing users to purchase access to a national property ownership database and pay for an ad-free version of the app. There is a lot more on the horizon."
HuntStand is designed to provide the user with a variety of data points, including location of hunt stands on a property and wind speed in the area. TerraStride Pro, which uses the same mapping technology as the hunting app, offers a virtual tour of high-value property that can be used by real estate brokers.
Each app’s components are basically the same — satellite images, GPS and a computer.
The download is free; the company monetizes the app by selling advertising space to merchants trying to sell their wares and services to hunters.
Holloway, who founded the company in 2012, recruited his tech team from among software developers who were working on their doctorate degrees at the University of South Carolina’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.
The SC Launch program is SCRA's entrepreneurial platform that provides mentoring, grants and investments to qualified S.C. companies in the advanced materials, manufacturing, information technology and life sciences industries.
