South Carolina’s first high school film festival, coming to Blythewood in April, will feature a two-time local Oscar winner.

The Doko Film Fest, a competition for filmmakers ages 15-18, will be held April 26-27 in Blythewood, giving high school producers the chance to debut their work in front of audiences.

Students also will have the chance to attend classes held by professional filmmakers and have their work judged by industry professionals, according to a news release from festival organizers.

The schedule for the film fest, which began accepting entries last October, includes a silent action on Friday, April 26, that will feature prizes including a knife signed by James Jude Courtney, the actor who played Michael Myers in the 2018 “Halloween” remake.

The film festival will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Westwood High School, located at 150 Turkey Farm Road.

Blythewood native Michelle Eisenreich, whose film company, Double Negative, won an Oscar for its work on First Man, will hold a master class on film production. Eisenreich’s company also won an Oscar in 2018 for its work on Blade Runner 2049

Art and film courses will also be held by representatives from the University of South Carolina and the Savannah College of Art and Design.

The awards ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m., with prizes given in the following categories: short story, documentary, music video, comedy, animation, pocket studio (smartphone) and best festival film.

The festival will conclude with a concert at Doko Manor.

Festival tickets can be purchased at dokofilmfest.com.
