Nominations for Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Keeper scholarship awards are being accepted by the city of Columbia through Jan. 5.
The awards recognize demonstrations of King’s ideals of social responsibility, political empowerment, diversity, racial harmony, nonviolence and unselfish service.
Nominees must be age 18 or younger and enrolled in school, with a minimum 2.0 grade-point average.
The winners will be announced at the city’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Jan. 15. Nominees must attend the event, to be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park and Community Center at 2300 Greene St. at 4 p.m.
Applications are available online or at the city’s park and recreations department. Applications must be returned in person or by mail to the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department, 1111 Parkside Drive, Columbia, S.C., 29203, or to email@example.com. Applications must be postmarked by Jan. 5.
