The Higher Education Research and Scholarship Foundation has given $10,000 to the Midlands Technical College Foundation to help fund tuition for MTC nursing graduates pursuing Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing.

The American Public University System supported the donation.

MTC’s nursing program has an advisement component that provides encouragement and guidance for registered nursing graduates looking to attain BSN degrees.

“I wanted MTC’s talented graduates to have every opportunity to advance in their careers and, in some small way, also recognize MTC’s nursing program’s outstanding faculty and staff,” Michael Williams, manager of health outreach for American Public University, said in a news release.

Doris Chaplin, the college’s nursing program’s RN-to-BSN advisement coordinator, organizes events for MTC nursing students to meet representatives from 10 regional colleges that offer bachelor’s degrees.

“It’s important for MTC nursing graduates to look into continuing their education toward a BSN,” Chaplin said. “The support of this grant will help get the word out that general education courses toward a BSN can be taken at MTC for a nominal cost as compared to other institutions.”
