The S.C. Department of Education will unveil the 2020 South Carolina African American history calendar on Oct. 8 at the Koger Center for the Arts.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. at 1051 Greene St.

Launched in 1989, the calendar aims to educate students about the contributions of distinguished black citizens who have connections to South Carolina. Originally created to assist the state education department in meeting curriculum requirements for the inclusion of black history, the calendar has become a global resource for recognizing the achievements of notable African Americans with S.C. ties.

The calendar website, www.SCAfricanAmerican.com, includes information on past honorees, as well as resources for educators and links to materials related to South Carolina's African American history.

Free tickets are available with online registration.
