Annual USC Economic Outlook Conference set for Tuesday

Economic experts at the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business will present their annual expectations for the state’s economy in 2020 at the 39th annual Economic Outlook Conference on Tuesday in Columbia.

University president Robert Caslen is the keynote speaker for the annual event, to be held from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Pastides Alumni Center at 900 Senate St.

Research economist Joseph Von Nessen will present the statewide economic forecast, while Wells Fargo senior economist Sarah House will give the national economic forecast. Doug Woodward, director of the division of research and economics professor at the Darla Moore School, will discuss expected economic challenges in the Midlands.

Industry leaders are scheduled to discuss the role of national defense-related research in the development of regional knowledge clusters, or organizations which collaborate to increase effectiveness. Guest speakers will also address regional and national market trends, with an emphasis on the effect of tariffs on the state economy.
