Richard Cohn, chairman of Columbia-based general contractor Cohn Corp., is the new chair of South Carolina Educational Television.

Cohn will oversee SCETV planning for the upcoming year. His term began on Dec. 11 and will expire June 23.

“Our goal is to make SCETV the thriving network it used to be,” Cohn said in a news release. “Along with the other members of the board, I’m excited to get this productive year started.”

Cohn is the founder of Cohn Corp. and is currently serving as chair of the city of Columbia’s planning commission. He is a member of the American Arbitration Association and received the Palmetto Patriot award, the highest award given by South Carolina’s lieutenant governor, in 2011 for his contributions to the state.

“SCETV has been an important voice in the homes of South Carolinians for decades, and its legacy is one that must be carefully fostered and protected,” S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster said in the release. “Mr. Cohn’s experience in business and his well-established dedication to our state will help us do that and will further its mission of providing quality educational television and radio programming to South Carolinians throughout our state.”
