Milliken & Co. Charitable Foundation is donating $2,000 scholarships to five historically Black colleges and universities in South Carolina.

The grant will provide one scholarship per institution beginning this fall to science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors at Allen University, Benedict College, Claflin University, Morris College, and Voorhees University. Prospective recipients must be S.C. residents with demonstrated financial need, be enrolled full-time, and have a 2.5 or higher GPA.

“We are extremely grateful for Milliken’s long-standing and generous support of students at SCICU’s member colleges and universities,” said Jeff Perez, president and CEO of South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities. “In 1953, SCICU started advocating on behalf of independent higher education in South Carolina, and Milliken has partnered with us since 1956. Over the years, Milliken’s support of SCICU has totaled more than $4.1 million.”

In 1995, Milliken & Co. provided $25,000 in seed money for starting the SCICU Undergraduate Student/Faculty Research Program.

Milliken will host that program’s research symposium at its Spartanburg headquarters on Feb. 16, 2023. The annual symposium gives students a professional forum for the presentation of project findings during more than six months of research.
