Solar developer Southern Current is investing $20 million in a new facility in Aiken County.

Southern Current, an owner and developer of residential, commercial and utility-scale facilities across the southeastern U.S., manages projects from site selection to operation.

“Southern Current is thrilled to be working with Aiken County,” Southern Current chief development officer Paul Fleury said in a news release. “The economic development team has a strong track record for supporting the growth of the clean energy revolution, and we're excited to become a part of the community. These types of partnerships are continuing to show the country what makes our state so great.”

The Aiken project will be located north of the town of Jackson off Atomic Road.

“We are pleased that Southern Current chose Aiken County for its newest solar farm,” Aiken County Council chairman Gary Bunker said. “This is a significant investment, one that highlights the attractiveness of Aiken County for green energy projects. I'm confident that this project will be a win-win for both Southern Current and Aiken County taxpayers.”
