South Carolina is ranked as the third-best state for fair state and local tax systems, according to new analysis from WalletHub.

The website analyzed and ranked the 50 states based on fairness in income taxes, sales and excise taxes, and property taxes. The site used the results of an online survey of more than 1,000 people to determine what Americans think a fair system looks like, then analysts compared public perception to actual data on the structure of tax systems.

The Palmetto State finished behind Montana and Oregon for the top honors.

With No. 1 signifying the lowest dependency, South Carolina ranked No. 34 in dependency on property taxes, No. 24 in dependency on sales and excise taxes, No. 15 for dependency on income taxes and No. 33 for dependency on other taxes.
