Cypress Creek Renewables is investing $10 million to establish solar power operations in Darlington County, the S.C. Commerce Department said.

The facility, which will be located off of Gilchrist Road, will produce 10 megawatts of energy at full capacity, the department said. This is enough to provide inexpensive, secure, clean energy to 2,000 South Carolina homes.

“We're excited to see Cypress Creek continue to invest in our state and our people,” Gov. Nikki Haley said. “We have worked extremely hard to build a business environment in South Carolina that is open to all kinds of companies, and we look forward to seeing both Cypress Creek and the renewable energy industry grow here in the future.”

The facility is expected to be fully operational by the end of next year, and 40 to 60 jobs will be created during construction.

“We are thrilled with this opportunity to bring a stable, clean source of energy to Darlington County,” CEO Matthew McGovern said. “Cypress is making the investment in this project because we believe in the value of our partnership with this community.”

Cyprus Creek Renewables’ investment joins a $20.4 million investment in Lexington County solar operations, which was announced in August.

The company currently manages a development pipeline of more than 200 projects, Commerce said.

“This investment by Cypress Creek Renewables will further strengthen South Carolina's growing reputation in the area of renewable energy,” said Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt. “Providing both positive economic and environmental impacts, I'm proud to welcome Cypress Creek to our state and look forward to growing this terrific partnership in the years ahead.”
