S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley told a pool of reporters she was not interested in being a Republican vice presidential candidate, no matter who the GOP candidate was.
Following remarks at the S.C. Automotive Council’s Auto Week event today at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Greenville, Haley addressed reporters and was asked about being on several candidate’s “short list” for a running mate, but was asked if she would be willing to be Donald Trump’s running mate, if the billionaire businessman from New York were to win the nomination.

Since giving the Republican response to President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union address in January, Haley had been considered by political pundits to be a viable vice presidential candidate. Just prior to the S.C. Republican primary, Haley publicly endorsed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, further hinting the two-term governor would be a potential running mate if Rubio were to win the GOP nomination.
Trump won the S.C. primary and its 50 GOP delegates by more than 10% over Rubio and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Today, Haley continued to stump for Rubio who, according to most national polls, still trails Trump by more than 10 percentage points.
“(Rubio) can beat (the Democrats), he’s got the passion, he’s got the knowledge and we think it can really make a difference,” Haley said. “But, it’s not looking like (Ohio Gov. John) Kasich or (Ben) Carson are getting out anytime soon.”
Haley didn’t shy away from taking shots during her speech at the S.C. Auto Week event either. She said the Democratic presidential field “has a lot of baggage” and said this is the best time for Republicans to take control of the White House.
“If Republicans don’t win the presidency, then it’s shame on us because we have plenty to work with,” Haley said.
