The S.C. Disability Employment Coalition will hold a disability benefits workshop on Dec. 5 at the Sumter SC Works Center. The free event will focus on myths about how working affects disability benefits.
State and private organizations will be on hand to discuss services offered to disabled individuals who want to return to work or increase their earnings. After the workshop, a resource fair featuring community organizations will be held.
The S.C. Disability Employment Coalition is funded by the Administration for Community Living and the S.C. Developmental Disabilities Council.
“We are committed to educating people about their rights and the services available to support them in meeting their employment goals,” said Sandy Jordan, director of employment programs with Able South Carolina, in a news release. “Seventy percent of individuals with disabilities in South Carolina are unemployed, but we know from experience if we eliminate barriers to employment access, these individuals can achieve success and bring value to employers.”
The workshop, titled “Disability Benefits & Employment: Make it Work for You!”, will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 31 E. Calhoun St. To register, visit http://bit.ly/SumterDec2017, email email@example.com or call 1-800-681-7715.
