Columbia Housing Authority has renewed three federal grants and secured another totaling more than $673,000.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that CHA successfully renewed three Continuum of Care grants: permanent supportive housing chronic ($209,881); permanent supportive housing disabled ($278,288); and housing first expansion ($131,574). The new grant, housing first expansion plus, will provide an additional $54,100, which will allow the organization to provide five additional housing units.

The Continuum of Care Program works to end homelessness through local planning, direct housing and service programs.

“We are very enthusiastic about the increased amount of aid that will allow us to better serve the homeless population of Richland County,” CHA executive director Gilbert Walker said in a news release.
