James Crosland moved into a new office at the Cayce City Hall Wednesday. The former deputy chief of the city’s department of public safety has been appointed assistant city manager.

Crosland has served with the United States Coast Guard, the Lexington County Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Irmo Police Department. He was also a corrections officer with Lexington County and is an instructor at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and earned his certified public manager’s credentials through the S.C. Budget and Control Board.

To replace Crosland, the Cayce Department of Public Safety hired former Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Maj. John Jones as new deputy chief.

“In his role as the deputy chief of the Cayce Department of Public Safety, James Crosland achieved so much and is very well-respected throughout our community,” City Manager Tracy Hegler said in a news release. “His professionalism, ability to lead multiple teams within the department, and his understanding of the needs of our residents and businesses made him the perfect fit for this position.”
