New city of Columbia website compiles public safety information, FAQs

A new website launched by the city of Columbia provides public safety and health information as businesses reopen following COVID-19-related closures.

The microsite, Resilient Columbia, includes an economic sustainability plan, links to city economic recovery task force meetings, and a list of mobile COVID-19 testing clinics. A compilation of business resources includes information about and applications for loan programs.

The city is also seeking feedback on the greatest community needs related to the pandemic as it prepares to distribute an additional $611,921 in federal COVID-19 relief awarded in late May through the Community Development Block Grants-Coronavirus program.

Residents may respond to an online survey to help the city identify community priorities. The survey ends Friday.

The new city website also features a map of businesses which have taken the Resilient Columbia pledge. The pledge declares adherence to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, which include monitoring employees’ health, frequent cleaning, encouraging the use of face coverings, limiting occupancy and promoting social distancing.

The city has also compiled a list of frequently asked questions for small businesses, with answers to queries about topics including occupancy rates, city curfews and the role of the Columbia Police Department in implementing social distancing.   

The site will include additional tools currently being developed such as public service announcements featuring city leaders, as well as social distance signage and sidewalk decals.
