S.C. taxpayers have less than a week to meet the extended income tax filing deadline.

The S.C. Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service extended the filing and payment due date for income taxes until July 15 because of COVID-19 concerns. Returns and payments due then include individual income taxes, first and second quarter estimated taxes, franchise taxes, and corporate income taxes and license fees.

SCDOR is encouraging residents to manage returns online at MyDORWAY.dor.sc.gov and to call or email the office instead of visiting in person. Individual income taxes can also be filed electronically and refund statuses checked online.

As of June 25, SCDOR said it has processed 2,121,571 individual income tax returns, compared to the 2,227,923 returns it had processed by June 27, 2019.

Extensions to file tax returns until Oct. 15 can be requested. The revenue department reminds residents that the extension is to file taxes, not to pay what is due by July 15.
