A former partner at Nexsen Pruet is the new chief of staff at the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.

William H. Floyd III, a certified labor and employment law specialist, was a partner in Nexsen Pruet’s Labor and Employment Practice group. The former chair of the South Carolina Labor and Employment Section of the South Carolina Bar has more than 35 years of experience in handling labor and employment matters.

“I am excited to begin full-time public service with the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce, particularly in a time of great innovation and progress,” Floyd said in a news release. “DEW is an essential, resilient agency as ably demonstrated throughout the pandemic, and I am honored to join its team of professionals devoted to serving our state.”

Floyd currently serves on the board of directors for the SC Technical College System and the Society for Human Resources Management, Columbia Chapter. He is also a colonel in the South Carolina State Guard.

“It is terrific news to have William on board knowing the caliber of his work and of his character,” Dan Ellzey, DEW executive director, said. “His professionalism is unmatched and his illustrious career in labor and employment will undeniably benefit the agency and assist us in continuously improving the programs and services that we offer South Carolinians.”
