American Specialty Health Incorporated will take over the top floor suite at the B.B. Kirkland Seed and Distributing Company building located at 912 Lady St.

The 5,570 square-foot office was purchased from APEX Development for $1,225,000 and will be used as office and collaboration space for information technology professionals.

ASH says it will employ 30 people at the site and will be recruiting for software, development and engineering roles as well as a director of software.

“Columbia is a great place to do business and ASH is committed to Columbia for the long term, so it makes financial sense to purchase rather than lease office space,” said ASH Chairman and CEO George DeVries. “This building is centrally located in the Vista section of downtown Columbia, within walking distance to USC, restaurants, apartments and other housing. We’re excited to have a more permanent footprint here.”

In 2012, the Indiana-based company leased office space in the IT-oLogy at Innovista building at the Tower at 1301 Gervais St., staffing it with IT professionals, including recent graduates of the University of South Carolina. ASH will relocate its IT-oLogy employees to the new B.B. Kirkland building in early 2018, with an anticipated opening in February.
