Insure SC staff extending hours as enrollment deadline approaches

With Sunday’s deadline to enroll in Affordable Care Act health insurance plans for 2020 approaching, South Carolina’s nonprofit health insurance agency is extending its weekend hours.

The Palmetto Project’s Insure SC staff will be available from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday to explain coverage options.

“Deciding on a plan is more than just looking at the premium,” said Shelli Quenga, director of programs for Insure SC. “Having coverage is one thing, but having coverage that you can actually afford to use is quite another.”

Experts recommend looking at provider networks and prescription formularies to determine what out-of-pocket costs may be in addition to monthly premiums, according to a news release from Insure SC.

“Our staff of licensed agents can help you look at all of your options, which are often a combination of marketplace coverage with tax credits for the adults in the family and SC Healthy Connections Medicaid for children,” Quenga said.
