Mississippi-based Newk’s Eatery plans to open its first Midlands restaurant on Monday in the Vista’s City Market development.
The Columbia location at 707-A Gervais St., will be the fast-casual brand’s third in the state, including restaurants in Rock Hill and Summerville.
A percentage of grand opening day sales will be donated to the Ray Tanner Foundation, along with additional donations accepted in-store. Founded by USC Athletics Director Ray Tanner and his wife Karen, the foundation works to bring life and hope to children and their families who are economically and medically disadvantaged.
Collected donations will be presented to the Tanner foundation during a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 13 at 11 a.m.
The 5,100-square-foot, fast-casual restaurant offers fresh-tossed salads, California-style pizzas, hot toasted sandwiches, kettle batch soups and scratch-made desserts as well as wine and beer.
The restaurant will have indoor dining for 158 customers and patio dining for nearly 110.
Headquartered in Jackson, Miss., Newk’s Eatery has more than 85 locations in 13 states and plans to expand to more than 200 units by the end of 2018.
According to the company’s franchise disclosure document, stores open at least a year had an average unit volume of $2,561,867 million. The total investment necessary to begin operations of a Newk’s restaurant franchise is $792,000 - $1,151,000.
